KTM 990 DUKE R review

     KTM 990 DUKE R

KTM is all set to launch its liter class naked the “Super Duke” in India. The 990ccied machine is one of the most well known bikes from KTM and has a fan following world over, not that KTM has entered in the Indian market they are planning to slowly launch their line of bikes in India as well and with the stock holder Bajaj, the day isn’t very far. KTM 990 Super Duke runs on the legendaryLC8 V-twin motor which for the 2012 model has been de-tuned to 123bhp in order to obtain a more favourable torque output across a better RPM range. Its intelligent design principle with multi-function balancer shaft makes it the lightest and most compact V2 in its class. The tried and tested power unit impresses with explosiveness and spontaneous throttle response.
Aside from optimum combustion chamber design, the major factors behind the outstanding performance of the 990 Super Duke R’s V-twin with 75° cylinder angle are the state-of-the-art four-valve cylinder heads, each with flow-optimised ducts and two overhead camshafts.
The 2012 Super Duke has been rebadged as the 990 Super Duke ‘R’ which is the result of a powder-coated tubular space frame made from chrome-molybdenum steel with a bolted-on, light alloy sub-frame which provides a steeper steering head angle than that of the Super Duke and therefore slightly less trail for even greater manoeuvrability. The braking on the Super Duke R is handled by radially mounted four piston Brembo Brake callipers up front.  The suspension on the Super Duke R is powered by famous WP shock absorbers a WP steering damper.
Duke is projected to be launched in India in the first quarter of 2013 and it is more likely to be a CBU initially and should get a price tag of around 13lakh rupees. The Super Duke R will give a tough competition to all the liter class bikes in the market.
